Non-dilutive Greater China license; global rights retained
Full analysis, sources & comparables →Aligos Therapeutics granted Xiamen Amoytop Biotech an exclusive license to develop and commercialize pevifoscorvir sodium, its clinical-stage HBV capsid assembly modulator, in Greater China for chronic hepatitis B. Aligos received a $25M upfront payment and is eligible for up to $420M in clinical, regulatory and sales milestones plus tiered high single-digit royalties on net sales in the licensed territory. Aligos retains all rights in the US, Europe, South Korea, Japan and other markets. Pevifoscorvir sodium holds Breakthrough Therapy Designation from China's NMPA Center for Drug Evaluation.
Chronic hepatitis B is a lifelong viral infection of the liver that can progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. It is highly endemic in China, which carries one of the world's largest chronic HBV burdens. Nucleos(t)ide analogues suppress but rarely cure the virus, leaving large unmet need for finite-duration functional-cure regimens.
Standard of care is long-term nucleos(t)ide analogue therapy (entecavir, tenofovir). Novel capsid assembly modulators and functional-cure combinations are in development from Assembly Biosciences and others; pevifoscorvir is a next-generation capsid inhibitor.
Aligos grants Amoytop an exclusive Greater China license to pevifoscorvir sodium for chronic HBV: $25M upfront + up to $420M milestones + tiered high single-digit royalties.
Modest upfront but meaningful milestone/royalty upside; Aligos keeps all global ex-China rights to a Breakthrough-designated capsid inhibitor.
