Sanofi acquired Austrian biotech Origimm Biotechnology GmbH (Vienna; seller Sanja Selak) for up to EUR 150 million (EUR 55M upfront plus up to EUR 95M in development and regulatory milestones); the deal completed on Dec 3, 2021. The acquisition added ORI-001 (later ORI-A-ce001 / ORG101), a recombinant-protein therapeutic vaccine targeting Cutibacterium acnes surface antigens, advanced alongside Sanofi's mRNA Center of Excellence. The lead Phase 1 safety/immunogenicity study (NCT05131373, 38 participants) completed in Nov 2023, and Sanofi has since advanced a next-generation acne mRNA vaccine into a Phase 1/2 dose-finding trial (NCT06316297, recruiting from Apr 2024; estimated completion 2028) - the first major industrial commitment to a preventive acne vaccine.
