On 25 March 2024, Verge Genomics and Ferrer announced a strategic collaboration to co-develop VRG50635 for sporadic and familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Ferrer received exclusive co-development and commercialization rights in Europe, Central and South America, Southeast Asia and Japan, while Verge retained United States rights and rights in other territories. Ferrer committed more than EUR 112.5 million (approximately US$121.7 million) in combined upfront and potential development and commercial milestone payments, plus royalties on future sales. VRG50635 is a small-molecule PIKfyve inhibitor discovered using Verge's CONVERGE all-in-human platform and was in Phase 1b proof-of-concept studies in Canada and several European countries at signing.
