Shionogi agreed on 22 December 2025 to acquire global rights to Tanabe Pharma Corporation's RADICAVA ORS (oral edaravone) and intravenous RADICAVA franchise for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, paying a USD 2.5 billion lump sum through Shionogi Inc. plus potential royalties on future sales. Tanabe Pharma America established a new US entity to hold the RADICAVA business, which Shionogi acquired as a wholly owned subsidiary. The transaction closed in early April 2026.
