Pharma BD Deal Intelligence
On October 5, 2026 Shionogi & Co., Ltd. announced that its board had approved an agreement for its U.S. subsidiary Shionogi Inc. to acquire all shares of IntraBio Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on neurodegenerative disease, for a reported approximately $2.0 billion. The transaction transfers worldwide intellectual property and commercialization rights to AQNEURSA (levacetylleucine), approved by FDA in September 2024 for the neurological manifestations of Niemann-Pick disease type C and by the EMA in January 2026. On September 18, 2026 FDA granted a supplemental approval making AQNEURSA the first and only therapy approved for ataxia in patients with Ataxia-Telangiectasia. IntraBio becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Shionogi Inc.; closing is expected between November and December 2026. The deal follows Shionogi's earlier 2026 acquisition of global rights to an ALS asset from Tanabe Pharma.
