Rona Therapeutics granted Roche an exclusive worldwide license to its investigational RNAi candidate targeting activin receptor-like kinase 7 (ALK7), built on Rona's proprietary extrahepatic delivery platform, for obesity and metabolic diseases. Rona receives upfront and near-term milestone payments of up to $100 million and is eligible for up to $1.06 billion in additional development, regulatory and commercial milestone payments plus tiered royalties on global net sales. ALK7 is a TGF-beta receptor superfamily member expressed primarily in adipocytes; human genetic studies associate reduced ALK7 activity with favorable fat distribution, and therapeutic silencing is intended to reduce visceral adipose tissue while preserving lean mass.
