In January 1999 Warner-Lambert agreed to acquire Agouron Pharmaceuticals for approximately $2.1 billion in stock, gaining the HIV protease inhibitor Viracept (nelfinavir) and Agouron's structure-based drug discovery platform. Agouron subsequently became part of Pfizer through Pfizer's 2000 acquisition of Warner-Lambert.
