Pharma BD Deal Intelligence
LEO Pharma agreed to acquire global rights to Tanabe Pharma Corporation's dersimelagon (MT-7117), an investigational once-daily oral melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) agonist, for up to USD 435 million in upfront and near-term milestone payments, plus potential downstream milestones and tiered royalties on net sales. Dersimelagon is in development for erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) and X-linked protoporphyria (XLP), rare genetic disorders causing severe sunlight-induced skin pain. A US NDA was submitted in June 2026 under Fast Track and Orphan Drug designations, supporting a potential 2027 launch. The transaction is expected to close in H2 2026. The split between upfront and near-term milestones was not disclosed.
