AstraZeneca acquired Icosavax for up to $1.1B ($800M upfront plus a contingent value right of up to ~$5/share) to add IVX-A12, a bivalent protein virus-like-particle vaccine candidate targeting RSV and human metapneumovirus (hMPV) in older adults. The deal closed in February 2024. As of late 2025, the IVX-A12 Phase 2 program had completed (NCT05903183, NCT06481579) but no Phase 3 trial had been publicly registered, so the 'Phase III-ready' asset that underpinned the acquisition had not yet visibly advanced to pivotal development.
