Pfizer announced an agreement to acquire UK-based ReViral, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing antiviral therapies for RSV. Total consideration up to $525M including upfront and contingent milestone payments. Lead asset sisunatovir is an oral RSV fusion inhibitor. UPDATE: Pfizer completed the acquisition on June 8, 2022. The thesis subsequently failed to materialize: Pfizer terminated development of lead asset sisunatovir in October 2024, ending its Phase 2/3 and Phase 1 RSV studies (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06079320 marked TERMINATED for 'business reasons,' no safety concerns). Pfizer redirected RSV efforts toward its approved Abrysvo (RSVpreF) prevention vaccine, leaving the ReViral therapeutic programs effectively shelved.
