Mirador Therapeutics entered an exclusive worldwide license agreement with Kira Pharmaceuticals for KP-301, a long-acting anti-C5a monoclonal antibody, and KP-402, a small-molecule C5a receptor antagonist, announced July 16, 2026 alongside Kira's acquisition by Jasper Therapeutics. Mirador pays $12 million upfront plus undisclosed development and sales milestones. KP-301 is targeted at ANCA-associated vasculitis, with a Phase 1 study planned by year-end 2026 and a Phase 2 AAV study in H1 2027, with potential expansion into additional inflammatory indications.

Key facts

Disease & market context

ANCA-Associated Vasculitis (AAV)

Disease Overview

ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a group of serious autoimmune diseases - granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) - characterized by inflammation and destruction of small blood vessels, frequently causing kidney and lung damage. A 20-year U.S. population-based study estimated prevalence of ~42 per 100,000 and annual incidence of ~3.3 per 100,000 (global estimates 200-400 per million). The complement C5a/C5aR axis is a validated driver of neutrophil-mediated vascular injury in AAV, the target the approved oral agent avacopan (Tavneos) exploits, but substantial unmet need persists for better-tolerated, steroid-sparing options.

Competitive Landscape

The approved comparator is Tavneos (avacopan, Amgen/ChemoCentryx), an ORAL small-molecule C5a RECEPTOR (C5aR1) antagonist approved for AAV in 2021; standard of care is rituximab (anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody) or cyclophosphamide plus glucocorticoids. KP-301 differentiates as a long-acting anti-C5a antibody that neutralizes the C5a LIGAND upstream of the receptor, engineered via pH-dependent binding and antibody recycling for durable coverage at low, infrequent dosing - positioned to improve on avacopan's twice-daily oral burden and on the safety/steroid-sparing profile clinicians still seek. KP-402, a small-molecule C5aR antagonist, gives Mirador a second, oral shot on the same axis as avacopan.
