In April 2024 AbbVie entered a strategic co-development and licensing agreement with MedinCell (Euronext: MEDCL) to develop up to six next-generation long-acting injectable (LAI) therapies built on MedinCell's BEPO technology across multiple therapeutic areas. MedinCell received a $35M upfront payment and is eligible for up to $1.9B in development and commercial milestones ($315M per program across up to six programs) plus mid-single to low-double-digit royalties; MedinCell runs formulation and preclinical/CMC work while AbbVie funds and conducts clinical development, regulatory approval, manufacturing and commercialization. Since signing, the first LAI program candidate has been selected and advanced through preclinical and CMC activities; MedinCell expects the regulatory package to initiate first-in-human trials to be ready in 2026, enabling AbbVie to take the lead candidate into the clinic. The collaboration generated EUR 4.9M of co-development revenue for MedinCell in the first half of fiscal 2025-26 (six months ended September 30, 2025). No milestone payment beyond the $35M upfront has been publicly disclosed.
